Carmellia grabs my hand and hauls me behind her as she charges out of the medical bay. Everything inside me wants to resist, wants to stay as close to Dhuroth as possible. Yet...
The intuitive side of me knows it's time to get the heck outta here. For now.
Following Carmellia's lead I find myself in a line waiting to board one of the larger escape pods. The others speak in a hushed tones. Carefully, I reach out to connect with my lion man's mind.
The Divine knows I don't want to interfere, distract him at the wrong moment. "Victory Strike," I hear him roar. "Two destroyed. Spread tactic, men. We will meet on the far side of the moon."
That means, the Death Battlestar is attacking the side of the moon facing Earth. Yeah, that's where we are.
About to board the pod, everything shakes as if the entire moon is one colossal quake. I tumble backward before I can grip the boarding rail.
Like dominoes all of us in line fall over. I roll to the side, intending to stand when another massive strike keeps me on my knees.
'Come on,' I mentally say, 'blow that beast battlestar to particle smithereens.'
As if my lion man heard me, light blasts around us. Immediately, we rock back and forth like a ship riding an angry sea. But I know.
Dhuroth and his squad have disabled the death star. Again, an almost blinding light flashes, and the ground shudders briefly.
Then silence.
The kind of silence that is felt inside your entire body. Slowly, I move, then straighten. On my knees, I look around. Everything appears to still be intact.
The silence continues, and I gingerly rise to my feet. 'Dhuroth... Dhuroth, are you there?" I telepath.
Nothing. Nothing but more silence.
