KRIS COOK's CHAT ROOM - tonight - SOPHIE OAK
Wednesday's Words for September 29, 2010
Mr. Ashbury and I are relative new-comers here in town. We’ve only lived here twenty-three years. My brother preceded us to this community which bills itself “the prettiest town in Canada.” He moved here in 1966.
In his time as a resident of town, he’s been elected to town council a couple of times and even served on the county council for a term. He knows a lot of the people who live here or work here; his wife used to work at the Library so between them there isn’t much about this town or its denizens he doesn’t know.
So imagine my surprise and yes—my sense of one-upmanship—when I realized there was something about this community he didn’t know, until I told him about it.
He didn’t know about the shoe tree.
We first noticed the shoe tree one afternoon on our way home about three years ago. The tree is located on a road just within town limits, a road that plays host to farm fields on one side and undeveloped industrial land on the other. We passed the tree, and I thought, “I didn’t just see that…did I?” Being me, I stopped the car, put it in reverse, and slowly backed up for a better look.
There, on the trunk of a tree standing at the side of the road, were two pairs of summer sandals—his and hers.
“I wonder what that’s all about?” I asked Mr. Ashbury.
“Kids,” came his standard reply.
Willing to concede the shoe tree might in fact be some teenagers’ idea of an amusing diversion (more creative I say than cow tipping), I nonetheless smiled, and then drove on.
Over the course of the next few months, more and more shoes appeared on the tree. There were running shoes and deck shoes; sandals and flip flops; there were work boots and kids’ boots. There were not, of course, any ladies’ pumps. Mr. Ashbury asked why that would be, and I shook my head at him in pity as I replied that of course, in order for there to be any women’s pumps on the tree, women would have to voluntarily part with their shoes.
Not going to happen.
The presence of the shoe tree drew the attention of the local paper, which ran an editorial featuring letters from readers speculating as to the meaning of the collection, and the identity of the person or persons responsible. The most imaginative response was that they’d been nailed up by a family of philanthropic squirrels as the best way to collect the most nuts to be shipped overseas to other, poor, starving squirrels.
Then one day in the spring of the following year, the unthinkable happened. It was the day of the “annual spring clean up” campaign when volunteers flood the area to scoop garbage from the streets, sidewalks and ditches. To our great sadness, when we drove past the tree that afternoon, it was bare!
I don’t believe this town has ever seen such a hue and cry as that which arose when this travesty was discovered. No one would own up to having taken the spirit of “spring cleaning” so far as to denude the tree of its footwear bounty. However, the mood of the people had been measured, and that mood was outrage. I’m proud to report that the people of this community didn’t stop at voicing their opinions in their letters to the editor. Oh no, the people of this community acted!
This time, when the shoes went up, they really went up. I am pleased to report that during subsequent “spring clean campaigns” this tree—the original of which was established, not by teens but by a retired couple—has remained sacred.
Love,
Morgan

New Review for FEARLESS LOVE
Javen’s new mission is to convince the blonde beauty that her bite is erotic, not painful. If he doesn’t succeed, he could lose her forever. Emma doesn’t realize just how persuasive Javen can be. He’ll have to show her over and over exactly how good it feels to sustain her with his blood.
Angelique’s Review
Since I loved “Fearless Desires,” I couldn’t wait to get my hands on “Fearless Love!” Ms. Espino once again proves that she is a gifted storyteller with this hot paranormal romance. The plot twists and turns will keep you glued in your seat until the last page.
The characters in this book are realistic, dynamic, and emotionally engaging. As a heroine, Emma is a little too “damsel in distress” for my taste, but she is that way for a good reason. Javen is very Alpha male and set in his ways until Emma throws him off course. It is exciting to see them grow and change over the course of the story.
Due to the complexity of the story and the intertwined storylines, there is not much else I can say about it without giving away plot points. I do have to say, however, that the ending was awesome and I almost started crying. Can’t wait for the next addition to the Immortal Love series!

EXCERPT from THREE TO PLAY (mmf)
Clint put his hands up to his face. The memory of that night overwhelmed him.
“What happened, Clint?” Beth touched his shoulder.
“My grandfather caught us kissing. He jerked the boy up out of the bed, and told me to stay put. I heard my grandfather beat the boy. When the screams died down, my grandfather came back alone. He glared at me. Then told me to go to sleep before slamming the door.”
“What happened to the boy?”
“From my window, I saw him walking to the road. I wanted him to look back, but he didn’t. I never saw him again. Two months later, I left for Portland and never returned.”
Beth choked out, “My God, you’ve carried that all these years.”
He never shared any of that with anyone. And while telling them, tears flowed out of his eyes like a dam bursting. He felt the salty tracks they left on his cheeks. He felt like he’d run a marathon.
“What happened to that fucking grandfather of yours?” Dustin spat out. “I’d be happy to take the old man out.”
“Too late, Dustin. My youngest sister found me about two years ago. She called me the day before his funeral to tell me the old man died.”
“You were only thirteen when you left for Portland.” Beth’s eyes were bright red and tears fell freely from her eyes. “Did you have other family there?”
“No. I could pass myself off as eighteen. That’s when I got my first job in radio. I worked overnights at a little station.”
Dustin looked at him. “You’ve been carrying that for a long time.”
“Yes.”
Beth moved in close, her face inches from his. She kissed the tear remnants on his cheeks. “So, is that why you froze when Dustin touched your shoulder?”
“Yes.” Clint felt like a deflated balloon.
“You were scared that Dustin would realize you’re in love with him?”
“Yes, I’m in love with Dustin.” Clint finally said it out loud.
Had he made a mistake?
It was one thing to tell his tale of pain, but another to admit to the secret of his love for Dustin. Clint feared how Dustin might react.
He didn’t expect reciprocation sexually. He’d seen Dustin’s skill in the bedroom. He didn’t believe that his friend’s tastes ran to the man-on-man variety. Clint also didn’t expect an equal return emotionally, though he and Dustin had been close for years. Would his admission of love end their friendship? Clint’s gut seized into a knot.
“I thought that might be the case.” Dustin’s stare pierced his very center.
That he suspected astonished Clint. “You did? How long have you known?”
“A while,” Dustin nodded, “though you should call me dense. Before Friday night with Beth, I was never certain.”
“Really?” Clint couldn’t get his head around it.
Dustin smiled broadly. “Yes.”
“And you’re okay with that?” A lump grew in Clint’s throat.
“I’m more than okay with it. Friday night blew me away. But I promise, tonight will be even more incredible.” Dustin squeezed Clint’s thigh tightly.
Heat shot into Clint’s already lengthened cock from the Dustin’s touch. Beth leaned in and kissed along Clint’s jaw. Her hand went to his other thigh. A rhythmic thrum grew inside him. As he moved in closer, Clint could feel Dustin’s hot breath on his neck. It sparked all the nerve endings on his skin to life down to his cock.
“I understand why you two might want to console me, make me feel better. My story is tough to listen to. But I don’t expect that. Besides, Dustin, I doubt you’ve ever—”
“Don’t bet on that.” Dustin shook his head. “I don’t have much experience, but I did have a couple of semesters in college where I experimented with just about anything offered. One guy offered quite a bit.”
Clint thought the admission would’ve been a shock to him. But it wasn’t. Dustin’s bring-it-on attitude was part of his charm. But a college fling was just that—a fling. It would be best not to move forward, especially if Dustin only considered this as a kind of intervention therapy for a friend. The thought stopped him cold. Down this path heartbreak was inevitable, and he’d had his fill of that.
“Clint, please don’t be afraid.” Beth squeezed in closer.
Did she wonder if he’d only been with her Friday so that he could get close to Dustin? That wasn’t true. Clint desired Beth. Everything about her bewitched him, and he’d fallen completely in love with her.
She helped him accept his other desires. Passion for a man’s muscled touch on him—Dustin’s touch. He wanted both of them and in the most sinful of ways.
“I know what it’s like to be afraid.” Beth leaned over Clint and took Dustin’s hand by the wrist.
He craved them both. But at what cost? Though Dustin said that tonight would be incredible, what did that mean? A night in the sack, followed by a sunrise of regrets?
“You two don’t have to do this.”
“No, we don’t. But we want to do this.” Dustin leaned into him. “And Clint, most of all, I want to do this because I want you to be happy for once in your life.”
A flood of euphoria washed over Clint. He could no longer resist Dustin and Beth.
“Do you trust us?” Beth’s eyes sparkled.
God, she amazed him. “Yes.”
Clint’s heart pounded against his ribs. For years, that memory of his grandfather jerking up the boy from his bed imprisoned Clint. He’d been running from himself for so long. He cut off half of himself ever since he left that farm. Now, he purged the old bastard from his mind with the help of these two incredible people, willing to explore with him the other half of his sexuality.
Beth lifted Dustin’s hand and guided it to Clint’s bulge. Dustin squeezed Clint’s dick through the fabric of his pants. Something akin to a lightning bolt ripped through Clint.
“We’re really going to do this.” Clint looked from Beth to Dustin.
Both their eyes danced with lust. Then Clint looked down at Dustin’s shorts and spotted his rock-hard cock.
“Yes, we are definitely going to do this.” Dustin’s mouth enveloped Clint’s earlobe, sending rivers of hot lava through him.
Clint’s arousal exploded to the stratosphere. “I’m not sure what to—”
Dustin interrupted his sentence with a full-on kiss.

Angelic Forecast ~ #108
“Will it affect or change your future with Sedona?”
I wait. Have I asked the Heavenly One a question he finds too disturbing to answer? Or, will the future be affected in a negative way if he does answer?
“In the still of the night, do you remember that song from your past?”
“I do. My not-so-fun teenage days.”
The Cherub hums the tune, then sings part of the song, imitating the harmony.
I frown, puzzled, until the light streaks inside my mind. “There is always stillness in the midst of every storm.”
“The stillness. That is where Sedona and I live and love on Earth. We move from the storms we confront and when we are victorious in our mission, we enter the stillness. What always is. What has always been. And what will always be.”

Thank God for Friends.
I'm lucky to have so many wonderful friends. They have been so supportive on my writing journey. How they endured me rambling on and on about rejections, plots, characters, etc... at dinners, parties, breakfasts--I will never know? Still, I'm glad they did.
Failure is easy.
With great friends, success can be easy, too.
If you're interested, here's some of my personal steps to fail or succeed... the choice is mine:
Step to fail - Don't tell anyone about my dream.
I still find it hard to introduce myself as a writer. It was even harder when I was not published. Plus, if I don't tell anyone - I can't disappoint.
Step to succeed - Tell Everyone
It makes me accountable. When I started telling friends and family about being a writer, they started asking me what I was doing about it. I wrote and submitted work. When they asked again, I had something to share.
Step to fail - Know there is plenty of time to pursue it later.
Even now, I am a major procrastinator. If you need some excuses why you shouldn't act today on your own dream, send me an email. I've got a million of them.
Step to succeed - Do something everyday that moves me closer to my goal
The smallest step is also part of the journey to the realization of my dreams. Seriously, even the pile of rejection letters that I have in a box are evidences of movement forward. I learned from each and every "Though not for us, we wish you luck in the pursuit to get your story published" , "like the characters, but the plot is lacking" , "great voice, poor characters" , and then my favorite - "revise and resubmit".
Step to fail - Believe in my self-doubt.
"I have too much to learn" , "I CAN'T" , "No one will like this story" , "I don't have the (insert whatever will feed my self-doubt here like resources, time, support, education, etc...)"
Step to succeed - Believe in me!
"I will learn" , "I CAN" , "This story is amazing! And I actually wrote it. Woohoo!" , "I have all I need to succeed."
Step to fail - Go it alone.
Still, even soloists have accompanists, but best to wing it by myself than to open up to critiques and advice. Hell, I can figure out anything alone. Can't I?
Step to succeed - Mentors are a MUST!!!
Which brings me back to Shayla and Melissa. I am so grateful to them for all they've done for me. Whatever success I realize, they fully share in it.
Thank God for Friends!

SOILED DOVE & THE DESPERADOES
Finally, Soiled Dove and the Desperadoes, the novel I worked on for over a year is coming out, September 27th. I love the story and get emotional when I read it.
Well-bred and genteel, Valerie Johnson travels by train and stagecoach from Boston to join her husband three thousand miles away in Virginia City, Nevada, only to discover she is a widow. Low on money, unable to find respectable employment, she accepts a temporary position as a courtesan at Rosie's Parlor--an elegant Virginia City brothel.
When godlike Duke Dugan picks Valerie, they both wonder if it is lust or love at first sight.
Fascinated by the beautiful, flaming-haired prostitute he calls Red, Duke, wishing to learn more about her, takes her to dinner in Virginia City's finest restaurant. To her dismay, Valerie finds out that Duke is a rebel captain, who, along with his two brothers, is on a desperate mission for the despised Confederacy. She would tell the authorities, except there's one problem--she's fallen in love with him.
Story Excerpt
“Bartender,” he bellowed, “I need a bottle, a bath, and the fanciest lady you have.”
His gaze languidly circumnavigated the room, and she held her breath, her mind willing his selection. His fabulous azure eyes locked with hers, which caused her heart to race. When he yelled, “That one, she’s mine,” Valerie became light-headed.
The man grabbed the offered bottle and glass. “I need another one for the lady.”
Cliff, the bartender, produced the requested glass, and the man threw a silver dollar on the bar. “Thanks. Set my companions up, too, would you?”
Cliff nodded and slid over to wait on them.
The man directed a devilish grin at her. Valerie’s nipples swelled from the molten stare of his blue eyes and a perfect smile from faultless white teeth. After throwing the saddlebags back over his shoulder, he ambled, glasses and bottle in hand, toward her. She studied him. Unkempt, dark brown hair hung in mild, attractive curls from beneath his tan, weather-beaten hat. His jaw square, a narrow mustache rested between his hawkish nose and narrow lips set within an angular face. He was beautiful…and he’d picked her.
He stopped two feet from her. “What’s your name?”
For an instant, she couldn’t think of it. “Valerie.”
“Can I call you Red?”
Regaining a modicum of control, she casually shrugged and smiled. “Everyone else does.”
He smirked and dipped his head. “Good. I’m Duke, and I need a bath. Would you like to bathe with me, Red?”
Almost numb from his sensual aura, she nodded. “Sounds like fun.”
A twangy voice drew their attention. “Duke, I’m going to be busy for a while.”
For the first time, she got a good look at one of his companions. Young and handsome, he stood with an arm around Maude and the new half-breed girl.
Duke chortled. A small grin appeared on his face. “Two, huh? You think you can handle two?”
“Don’t know yet. But I aim to try. Goin’ to make up for lost time.”
Laughing, Duke lavished her with an impish grin. “How about you? Could you handle two?”
Thinking he meant the other younger man, she looked him over. Boyishly handsome, he had long, sandy-colored hair and almost identical blue eyes. He was a couple inches shorter than Duke and had a warm, engaging smile. He couldn’t have been much over twenty-one. She stared at Duke. “Him?”
Duke shook his head. “Nah, Cody don’t need the help.” He nodded toward the bar. “Cody’s brother, Cory. He’s shy, never been with a woman.”
She glanced in the direction of his head hitch and saw the duplicate of Cody leaning against the bar, nursing a draft.
Duke laughed again. “Only kidding. Wanted to see how game you are. Another time maybe. Tonight, you’re all mine.”
His gaze shifted to Cody. “All right, Cody, but we have to be going in a couple hours. We have to get rooms at the hotel.”
All of a sudden, Valerie felt emboldened. “You can stay in my room. No charge. And I’m sure Maude or…”
“Chana.” Cody offered her name, an effusive smile on his lips.
Maude and Chana nodded, both mumbling affirmation.
She could feel lightning clear down in her toes when Duke took her hand. “Good, one of them can take Cory, too. Will you see to it, Cody?”
Cody nodded, turned, and walked off with his flesh-and-blood booty.
With Cody gone, Duke’s smoldering eyes regained her attention.
“Why don’t we sit down and have a drink first, pretty lady.”
She flashed an effusive smile. “I’d like that.”
He led her to the closest empty table and pulled a chair out. She sat, and he pushed it in, then he took a seat himself. “Is bourbon all right, or would you prefer something milder?”
She would have preferred something else, but she didn’t want to trouble him. “Bourbon is fine.”
He poured them both a drink. “I can tell from your accent you’re a long way from home. Boston, isn’t it?”
She nodded, hoping he wouldn’t be too inquisitive.
“So how did you end up out here in wild and restless Virginia City?”
She scanned the ceiling as she pursed her lips in revulsion at the thought of what had brought her to this. “Benjamin, my husband of nine months, came out to make our fortune. He found what appeared to be a solid silver vein and filed a claim. He sent money back to Boston for me to join him, and when I arrived two months later, I was a widow.”
Duke’s brows rose above widening eyes. “What happened?”
Valerie shook her head at the waste of it all. “I was told Benjamin got in a fight over one of the girls right here and was shot right outside this parlor house. The girl involved described it to me but has since left. She said they brought him in here and laid him upon a table. Someone sent for a doctor, but by the time the he arrived, my husband had passed away.” Using the side of her forefinger, she brushed a solitary budding tear away. “They claimed it was a fair fight, but the shooter skedaddled out of town and hasn’t been seen since.”
Reciting the events of her husband’s death used to make her weep, but in the ensuing thirteen months, too much water had passed over the dam. Now, though she knew better, it almost seemed as if it had happened to someone else.
Was she becoming inured to this debauched life?
God, I hope not.
Adult Excerpt
She lifted her hand and grazed his bristly cheek. “Oh, you poor man. Well, I have the cure for that, but first you must get undressed, and so must I.”
His long stare pleaded with her. “I will, but, please, may I?”
She didn’t particularly enjoy sex with her customers, but she didn’t mind disrobing in front of them and watching their hungry admiration. “Go ahead.”
“With your dress and shoes off you seem much smaller. May I ask how tall you are?”
“I’m five-and-a-half-feet tall.” She tilted her head and smiled inquisitively. “What about you?”
He reached up. Shaking fingers untied her corset. “Six feet, three inches. And you weigh?”
“I weigh a hundred twenty pounds. Would you prefer fuller-figured woman?”
He removed her corset, allowing her breasts to feel the fresh air. Her breasts were of average size, but she’d been told that, because of their shape, color, and disposition, they were particularly attractive to men. Duke gasped. Cool air assailed her nipples, hardening them while he set the corset on the chair. Duke tenderly, lovingly, cupped her breasts.
“Never! You are perfect the way you are. Your breasts are perfect. Your waist and ass are perfect, too.”
She gasped when he bent down and wrapped his sweet lips around a swollen, jutting nipple. Instinctively, her hands lifted to his scalp, where her fingers tunneled through his head of fine, thick hair.
She reveled in the fact that this man, who had stirred her with a glance across the room, now sucked on her sensitive, light pink nub. Her pussy grew hotter and hotter. Wetness collected inside her vagina, and some escaped, trickling down her thighs, tickling her as it went. Her heart beat so hard, she thought it might come through her chest. “Please, there’ll be plenty of time for that.”
She sighed as he pulled away from her breasts. Two thumbs slid between the waistband of her pantalets and her flesh. He nodded.
“Has anyone looked after your pleasure, even as you looked after theirs?”
What is he getting after? “Not that I recall.”
“Then I shall.” Stooping, he pushed the pantalets to the floor and kissed her furry mound. A thrill raced through her. Did his tongue touch my love bud? Oh, how she loved the sensations that shot through her. Some of the girls told how wonderful it felt when a customer performed oral stimulation on their vulva, but no one had yet tried it on her. He appeared to contemplate it, his fingers clawing through her red strands. She swallowed, knowing that the second his mouth touched her sensitive button, she’d shatter. His tongue edged out and over her pulsating bud, and she held her breath.
He did it. She almost swooned. He licked her bud, triggering an ache in her pussy for him. This was no clod of a john. This man could cause her to feel like a goddess. She stepped from the pantalets and, once again, roamed her fingers through his hair, guiding him. She stood, naked as a newborn, in front of this fully-dressed man, enjoying his wicked tongue on her long-neglected, tender nub.
“I wish I could bottle the bouquet of your sweet cunt and take it with me,” he announced before urging her back until her thighs rested against the tub edge and bidding her to sit there. When she did, he spread her thighs and ran his fingers through her fire-red bush. Parting her nether lips with his fingers, he devoured the hollow between her soft folds. With his tongue, he aggressively engaged her love bud and probed her deep recess with two fingers.
Wishing his mouth to have even greater contact with her little bud, she reached down, grabbed the back of Duke’s head, and pulled him deeper into her overheating, moist pussy. She felt as if it slow cooked at medium temperature on an iron stove.
Wednesday's Words for September 22, 2010
I can definitely say that my very first writers’ retreat/girls weekend was a smashing success.
I’ve spent time with these wonderful women before, both collectively and individually. So the company was as stimulating, and as heart-warming as I knew it would be.
Despite the fact that this weekend was undoubtedly a social event, I had hoped to be able to get some writing done. My biggest wish was that the change in atmosphere, and the company of fellow authors, would prove inspirational.
I hadn’t expected the depth of renewal I experienced.
We enjoyed much laughter, of course, as well as many moments of synergy. Our hostess would accept no help with meal preparation or clean up—a gift greater than food, for it left the rest of us with no recourse but to be nourished, and then to take that nourishment and turn it into our craft.
Think about that gift for a moment, please. We were three women—three mothers, if you will, well used to showing our love for our families by being the nurturers, the providers, the caretakers—and here we were being nurtured and cared for in a way none of us had experienced since childhood. That, my friends, was an amazing gift.
In my daily life, as I create my characters and tell their stories, I’m also doing housework, making meals, caring for grandchildren, looking after pets, chauffeuring my husband back and forth to work, paying bills…in short, multitasking during every moment of the day. But for four days, I did nothing but be.
No wonder I felt as if I’d had a week’s vacation instead of only a few days.
Of course there’re always a couple of “transitional” days when I get home. I arrived after eleven in the evening—after my regular bed time, to be honest. And since each night while away I stayed up into the wee hours, I was tired. But it’s always good to come home.
Mr. Ashbury was very glad to see me, of course. I think he’s gotten rather used to having me around. We have, from time to time, spent a few days here and there in pursuit of separate endeavours. We’ve done that since fairly early on in our marriage. We’ve never, either of us, been inclined to live in each others’ pockets.
I had been curious as to how he’d fare in this instance, for unlike occasions past, he wasn’t alone for the entire five days I was gone. He’d booked the week off work, planning to stay home and do things around the house. He hadn’t planned on watching our grandchildren, but of course happily agreed to do so. I left via airport transportation on Thursday afternoon. Just before the dinner hour that same day, our second daughter dropped of the children on her way to work.
It took some effort on my part, but I let go of the ‘worry’ about this. I knew, of course, that he’d manage them through the evening, and send them to bed on time. It was the whole get-them-up-in-the-morning-and-off-to-school routine I worried about. To my best recollection, this would be a first for him.
But he passed that test with flying colors, and even surprised me. I’d assumed that for Thursday’s dinner, he’d use his most honed ‘cooking skill’, aka cash, and get either pizza (order in) or chicken (we have a franchise outlet four blocks away) or walk them down town to the really yummy burger place.
Mr. Ashbury did none of the above. Instead, he actually cooked one of their favourite meals: scrambled eggs with cheese. Granddaughter said it was “really good”.
And I happen to know this was the first meal he’d cooked since our three children were in grade school, I went to a PTA conference one weekend. The father of the house boiled hamburger for dinner. Upon my return, number one son begged me never to go away again.
Personal growth comes in all shapes and forms and sometimes, when you least expect it.
Love,
Morgan

Angelic Forecast ~ #107
“Serenity,” I say softly. The word, the idea sinks inside me like a gentle rainfall.
The three of us remain silent as we seat ourselves on the ground. The Cherub and me sit cross-legged. Moon Dream places herself next to me and gazes out at the far vista.
We are still for a long while, watching the sun lower toward a rough, but regal mountain peak. I soak in the scenery, the extraordinary feel of this wondrous place.
“The grand design,” I finally murmur.
“One of them,” the Heavenly One answers.
“I like this one,” I say. My words are inadequate, yet they were there to be spoken.
“I like this one, too. It is one reason I was chosen to descend, to rescue my Sedona.”
I ponder for long moments. “The future is forming now.”
“Yes.”
“Will it affect or change your future with Sedona?”
~~~~~~
ANGELIC FORECAST ~
Fight the good fight. That is the ‘saying’ for this week, and the next month’s time. Now is the time to stand up for what truly matters to you, and for what you truly believe in. To stand up for yourself and your loved ones.
Amid the coming storm of events, humanity, all of us as individuals, have the opportunity to decide the future. Our future. In key ways, the global society has arrived at a crossroads. So, too, will many of us face certain crossroads in our life that could appear daunting.
However, the angelic ones are present, and will guide those who seek them. So too does your heart knows which path to take, which sacrifice to make. Your heart knows who to help and who will help you. Helping one another is the way to shape the future, the future we all desire.
For me the hardest part about being a writer are reviews and ratings.
You work really hard on a book for months then it finally comes out.
You hope that you and your editor have caught all the typos, etc... and delivered a really good book. Then... your baby goes out.
*Bitting nails*
You wait for the feedback from reviewers and readers. You hope you've struck a cord with your story and characters. Then you wait to hear.
My book CAPTIVATION: Eternally Three has received some great ratings from the wonderful Siren readers on the BookStrand site--currently at 4.4 on a 1-5 scale.
*Exahale*
And the first review for the book has come in from Book Junkie. "Primal, sexually explosive and downright additive CAPTIVATION is a can't miss as it leaves you breathless and aching for more!" Got the highest rating at Book Junkie - a 5.
(Click here) for full review.
*Exhale*
Now, I must wait for more to come in. *Holding breath, again*
Summer is almost over!
Living in Dallas, this summer has been long and hot. Even though I am a lover of the sun, I'm ready for autumn. Cooler evenings will be such a nice change from the take-your-breath-away furnace we've been living with.
I'm also looking forward to having fewer distractions to keep me from my desk this time of year. I plan on really buckling down and writing during this respite between fun-in-the-sun months and the winter holidaze (yes, that's how I spell it - LOL!).
Also, I want to say thanks to the Siren readers for the wonderful response to CAPTIVATION my latest book. The emails I've gotten have been such a thrill.
If you get a chance, drop by Book Junkie (Click Here) tomorrow. I'm her guest poster.
Dream Big!
Wednesday's Words for September 15, 2010
I’m about to do something totally selfish. Tomorrow I leave for a long weekend, just me and three very special friends of mine, female authors all. This is our own private retreat, something I’ve never experienced before. We plan to relax, brainstorm, and write.
We’ll be staying on the shore of a lake. Water happens to be my element, but more, at the water’s edge is where my spirit always finds renewal.
I know I tend to wax darn near poetical when I talk about spending time with other writers. I’ve said more than once that for authors, being with others of our ilk is beyond special. It’s kind of like the stranger in a strange land who unexpectedly encounters fellow expatriates. There’s an immediate, soul-deep sense that says, “finally, I am no longer alone!”
This weekend has been a year in the planning. Because we all have very busy lives, carving out special “me” time takes a lot of manoeuvring and finger crossing.
This is also going to be a special event for me as it will be the first time ever I’ve experienced a “girl’s weekend”. I’ve never had one before because, up until relatively recently, I didn’t have very many female friends.
But now I have three very good female friends and they’re all writers! Am I lucky, or what?
Over the last decade, I’ve trod a far different path than I’d ever truly envisioned for myself. I’m thinking about and doing things I never even imagined I ever really would. And I figure it’s the right path for me because I am constantly aware of the evolution taking place around me but more importantly, in me.
The whole point of life, in my opinion, is to grow and fulfill your potential. I have been working in that direction, especially over the last ten years.
I look at myself now and who I was then and the change amazes me.
Are you aware of the changes that have taken place in your own life and your thinking over the years? I ask, because one of the things I have noticed is there are basically two types of people in the world. Those who are ok with who they are and have been, acknowledging their warts, their stumbles, and with a shrug get on with things and change and evolve; and those who are not and so are inclined to “re-write” their own history from time to time.
I know several people who fall into the latter category. They are so into denial that they successfully “forget” entire portions of their past. Certain errors in judgements, or rough times, are so “pushed away” that eventually, in these peoples’ minds, those events simply never happened.
People are free, of course, to live their lives however they choose, and I suppose the up side to that way of life would be you’d feel pretty good about yourself for the most part just about all of the time. Well, at least until it all blew up in your face.
But to my way of thinking, if that’s how you handle life, where does the growth happen? How can you learn from your past mistakes if you deny them into oblivion?
As I embark on my five days of immersion in the company of my sisters in spirit, I plan to keep my heart and mind open for the next step in my own personal evolution. I’m going to do my best to hang on to the memory of everything, whether I’m the star in the scenario or not.
And I hope the day will come when I’ll be able to look back and see just what an amazing journey I’ve had.
Love,
Morgan
Angelic Forecast ~ #106
Note: Volcano and Sedona’s second anniversary scene will be posted in its entirety at the HAPPILY EVER AFTER blog on Monday, September 13th.
~~~~~~
The moment the Heavenly One and I touch hands... zoom! Kaboom somewhere. ‘Moon Dream,’ I mentally shout.
‘She is with us.’ The Cherub’s voice resonates through me, a curious combination of drums and bells in tone.
I blink several times taking in the gorgeous mountain and valley vista before me. The sun is half-mast and pale lemony light slants over the shadowed peaks. The meadows are green, and so beautifully colorful with summer flowers.
“Why here?” I ask, as I slip my hand over Moon Dream’s soft-fur head. She has pressed herself against me.
~~~
Moments slip by before the Heavenly One answers. “Serenity. That is why we are here.”
“Yes, it feels sweet and serene here. Yet, so amazingly alive.” I continue stroking Moon Dream’s head. My gaze naturally roves over the splendid and sumptuous beauty before me. I soak it in and realize that I have been thirsting for what the Cherub is showing me.
“There are times when serenity is necessary to our souls, to the enlivening of our spirit.” He gestures expansively. A subtly glittering rainbow flows from his arm.
“We need times of serenity more and more, don’t we?”
“In these times serenity will become priceless.”
~~~
TO BE CONTINUED...

ANGELIC FORECAST ~
For the following week the calm before the storm, and storms, will be the theme. Storms of emotion and events are likely to occur in your personal life, or to those close to you. Weather storms, more firestorms are on the horizon. Take care wherever you are. And, as always, prepare.
There will be more conflicts, more wars and rumors of wars. The Dark Side will cause chaos wherever it can strike. However, a mighty storm is brewing in many societies around the globe. These storms of rage against corruption will grow stronger and become angrier.
Dissatisfaction bursts to the surface and will not be contained. For many, at this time, freedom’s light is beckoning. Suddenly, the value of living free is seen and recognized as paradise. As has been said, an idea whose time has come, cannot be stopped.
The continued awakening of humanity into the Aquarian Age guarantees the demand for true freedom. This demand rises like a great tide and continues to sweep across the world.
As an individual open to your own inner yearnings to be free. Look for concrete steps to take, follow your heart and take action. For, freedom is your gift from the Divine this week, and for the future.
"Greater than the tread of mighty armies is an idea whose time has come."
