"Not ever again," I echo. "Your prayers are powerful, my lion man."

We walk side-by-side in the way of lovers. "Do your horses come inside often?" I ask.

"Those who are well behaved are welcome. Right, Xieres." Dhuroth takes hold of the bridle, then affectionately strokes the beast's face and neck.

"Will our animals from Mars get along with your animals here?" I ask, offering my palm to Xieres so he can sniff me.

The strange horse snuffles for moments, then nuzzles my hand in what appears to be acceptance. I smile with happiness. Somehow my lion man and I will make a home here.

For an instant, I think of Earth, my life there. Sadness wells up inside me. Gone. Gone with the evil winds.

Will it be forever?

And Mars, my life with Dhuroth, has been unbelievably wonderful and unbelievably challenging. I've grown in ways I never ever dreamed possible. I've recovered parts of myself I never knew had been lost.

"I am certain we can persuade our animals to become a family. Although, I have built separate facilities for them." Dhuroth snaps me back from my reverie with his words.

He takes up my hand, and we move toward the doorway, Xieres following. As we step outside I see a rainbow of colors bannering across the sky. I pause in awe.

As we stand, enjoying the magnificent display of color, we clasp hands lovingly. I rest my head on Dhuroth's huge arm. Hope for a good future mixes with flashes of stomach-queasy uncertainty. I recall those times before in my life when everything became chaos and horror.

Sadness sits beside acceptance, and I speak from my soul. "It's always about beginning again, isn't it?"

"In this arrangement of timelines, so it is, my one. But I long for more stability, to build a permanent life that is treasured each and every day. Where happiness is more important than war."

Dhuroth's soul answers me.

"More important than war," I repeat. "Once upon an age of time ago, we had that, didn't we?"

"We did, my love." He strokes the hand I have placed on his chest over his heart. "Many of us work toward that day again."

"You know... this sounds kind of strange. But I'm remembering the scene in GONE WITH THE WIND where Scarlett O'Hara has been widowed... she's wearing black as was done in those times... and she's relegated to serving punch at the ball instead of dancing ... she's playing the part of grieving widow, but her feet are dancing to the tune behind the table... yeah, Scarlett had her human faults, alright... she wasn't in love the man she stole from her sister... and yet, there's something to be said for being totally bored with war..." I pause, gathering my thoughts. "I mean, shouldn't we be dancing through life, having fun, enjoying and buildihng good lives? Instead of having wars, and more wars...instead of destroying lives and land... and destroying all that's good in life?"
