"Time is not on our side," she replies, as I slowly sink back down. I hear the real fear in her voice.
"Meaning?" I persist, placing my hand over my brow.
"Your head will clear," Carmellia assures, not answering my question. "The medical readings show you are stabilizing. Just a bit of dehydration."
I feel her place a sip bag in my hand, and I slowly drink the healing electrolyte solution. All the while my thoughts whirl as I wonder what is really happening in the space battle to protect the moon base.
Since I don't feel the connection with my lion man, I am in the proverbial dark.
With a suddenness that steals my breath, the entire structure around us shakes violently. I shoot upward, even as Carmellia totters, then loses her balance. She falls, bracing herself on her palms so that she doesn't land on top of me.
We end up staring at one another, as the building finally stops shuddering.
"Direct strike," we hear over the com system. "Shields are still holding. Evacuations are underway. Report to your designated departure point."
"Well, that isn't good," I murmur.
Carmellia grabs my hand and hauls me behind her as she charges out of the medical bay. Everything inside me wants to resist, wants to stay as close to Dhuroth as possible. Yet...
The intuitive side of me knows it's time to get the heck outta here. For now.
Following Carmellia's lead I find myself in a line waiting to board one of the larger escape pods. The others speak in a hushed tones. Carefully, I reach out to connect with my lion man's mind.
The Divine knows I don't want to interfere, distract him at the wrong moment. "Victory Strike," I hear him roar. "Two destroyed. Spread tactic, men. We will meet on the far side of the moon."
That means, the Death Battlestar is attacking the side of the moon facing Earth. Yeah, that's where we are.
About to board the pod, everything shakes as if the entire moon is one colossal quake. I tumble backward before I can grip the boarding rail.
