My held breath whooshes out, and I fix my gaze on the scene scanning for a sneak attack.
Temporarily out of the enemy's firing zone, Dhuroth spins the fighter like a top, then dives toward the fast-advancing dark sphere. An array of particle-beam arrows burst from the sphere and slice through blackness of space.
'Attack!' I mind-to-mind scream to my lion man.
'Returning attack,' he mentally replies, steadfast and powerful as ever.
I watch as Dhuroth spins a photon net, slinging it at the beam arrows. Most of them captured and dissolved, a few escape. Neatly, my lion man skims above the particle attack.
In moments, a blue plasma ball the size of a small planet forms before Dhuroth's fighter. In wonder, I observe it streak toward the dark sphere, which winks out.

This is due, in part, to the thinning veils between dimensions. However, there are hidden populations on Earth of various 'wee folks', and they have decided at this turnpoint to make themselves known to certain humans.
This is a mixed blessing if there is an encounter, given some of these entity-races are on the good side, and some are on the mischievous, even nasty side. Beware!
